¡EL FUTURO DEPENDE DE TODOS!
Se trató de un trabajo conjunto, LCBAG, Full Circle, Wraparound (Lake County Human Services), Lake County Public Library, Lake County Probation, CMC, Cloud City Conservation, St. George y miembros voluntarios, todos parte de un solo equipo, Líderes Latinoamericanos. Esta iniciativa abarcó dos fechas de participación comunitaria; Educación Cívica y Noche de candidatos. La primera noche se enfocó en la representación para la población Latinex, incluyendo cómo involucrarse con el escenario político de nuestro condado. La segunda fecha abarcó, la interacción con candidatos a diferentes cargos públicos dentro de nuestra comunidad y contó con traducción simultánea en colaboración con Voces Unidas de las Montañas; en el marco de justicia lingüística.
LCBAG, Full Circle, Wraparound (Lake County Human Services), Lake County Public Library, Lake County Probation, CMC, Cloud City Conservation, St. George, and Líderes Latinoamericanos sponsored the event together. The series included two dates of community participation: Civic Education and Candidates Night. The first night focused on Lantinex representation and engagement, including how to get involved politically. The second night included time for community members to interact with the candidates, including simultaneous translation, supported by Voces Unidas de las Montaña’s, to support language justice.
El 31 de agosto Líderes Latinos, organizó una charla de educación cívica de la mano de Mountain Dreams. Allí los asistentes aprendieron en un espacio facilitado por Full Circle que como comunidad, podemos generar impactos significativos si trabajamos unidos y organizados. También, dos de las miembros de Líderes, compartieron anécdotas de sus inicios como lideresas comunitarias. (Este evento fue completamente en español).
On August 31, Líderes Latinos organized a civic education talk with Mountain Dreamers. In the space provided by Full Circle, participants learned that we can generate significant impact if we are organized and work together as a community. Two members of Líderes Latinoamericanos shared anecdotes of their beginnings as community leaders. (This event was completely in Spanish).
Alma Macias: Ella compartió cómo golpeando puertas, logró materializar un proyecto para beneficiar a su entorno comunitario. “Al principio teníamos miedo y vergüenza, porque muchas personas nos cerraron la puerta, pero logramos cumplir nuestros objetivos con la comunidad. LCBAG, nos ayudó, necesitamos apoyo y ellos nos ayudaron”
Alma Macias shared that by knocking on doors she managed to materialize a project to benefit her community. “At first we were afraid and ashamed, because many people closed the door on us, but we managed to meet our objectives with the community. LCBAG They helped us; we need support and they helped us”
Ana Dominguez: Nos contó cómo fue su experiencia en la consecución de señales de reducción de velocidad para proteger a los niños y niñas de su comunidad. “No necesitamos levantar la voz, necesitamos saber a dónde dirigirla”
Ana Dominguez told us about her experience in obtaining speed reduction signs to protect the children of her community. “We don’t need to raise our voice, we need to know where to direct it.”
Por su parte Javier Pineda, miembro de Mountain Dreams y quien dirigió la charla cívica, nos dejó esta interesante reflexión. “Los cambios son más impactantes en las comunidades pequeñas, empezar siendo voluntarios o involucrarnos con el entorno al que pertenecemos, es el primer paso para obtener la representación que queremos”
For his part, Javier Pineda, a member at Mountain Dreamers who led the civic engagement talk, left us this interesting reflection. “The changes are more impactful in small communities, starting as volunteers or getting involved with the environment to which we belong, is the first step to obtain the representation we want”
Líderes Latinoamericanos, trabaja para que la comunidad Latinex en Leadville tenga información y participación en los escenarios públicos y políticos en el condado de Lake, por esa razón y como segunda fecha en el avance hacia el acceso a la información e igualdad lingüística, realizaron una noche de candidatos con traducción simultánea al español, para los asistentes del pasado 12 de octubre. En un espacio proporcionado amablemente por Freight, aspirantes a posiciones de rango público en Lake County, expusieron propuestas y respondieron a preguntas formuladas por Líderes y participantes del público; concernientes a las problemáticas actuales que enfrenta nuestra población Latinex y cómo planean incluirlas en sus posibles administraciones.
Líderes Latinoamericanos works to ensure that Leadville’s Latinex community has access to the information they need to be confident participating in political activities in Lake County. In the space kindly provided by Freight, candidates for elected positions in Lake County presented proposals and answered questions from Líderes and other participants concerning the current problems facing our Latinex community and how they would include them in their administrations.
El conocimiento es poder y cada voto cuenta, es el mensaje que Líderes Latinoamericanos quiere transmitir a nuestra comunidad hispana, ya que ¡Todos podemos ser factores de cambio positivo!
Líderes Latinoamericanos wants to convey that knowledge is power and every vote counts. We can all be factors of positive change!
